Pacquiao Conquers Cotto for TKO win

LAS VEGAS – Manny Pacquiao staked his claim amidst boxing’s Legend only throne as the best pound-for-pound fighter,
in the world, using his eye defying lightning hand speed to defeat and hammer Miguel Cotto into submission on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena

Pacquiao unleashed flurry upon flurry of fist fury in tight combinations , knocked Cotto down once in the third round

an d again in the fourth,Kept on the pummeling session him repeatedly and again Cotto hit canvas hard,Manny easily
lifted the World Boxing Organization welterweight belt from the Puerto Rican who warriored it through to a 12th-round
stoppage. The time was 55 seconds into the final round, as referee Kenny Bayless took a merciful leap between the
fighters to save Cotto from a savage beating and to say the least an ignominious end.

Cotto as anticipated came out strong as was his main advantage and to the best of his ability started good and landed

some solid hard punches , but as was soon evident Cotto couldn’t cope with the hand speed. Pacquiao was at least a

third more prolific and was landing three shots for every two Cotto did . After the knockdown in the fourth, Cotto’s

offense diffused away leaving barley a remnant of striking power,his defense was in the red and overstressed as he

spent most of the last two thirds of the fight fending off Pacquiao’s relentless onslaught.

Cotto did summon up some reserve power and sucseeded in landing single digits in power shots in every round from the fifth,onward.

Pacquiao should have had the stoppage after the 11th when Cotto trainer Joe Santiago decided his boy had too much of

this treatment walked onto the ring apron and motioned to Baylesswith a wave his hand at Bayless to stop the fight.

It seemed for sure he was going to stop the fight, but then Bayless and ringside physician James Game convened and decided to allow the

hammering exhibition to proceed.Wrong decision in many people opinion It was only extending the misery as Pacquiao continued the tirade of evploding fists in the 12th..

When the fight came to an end, the crowd began to chant, “We want Floyd!” This was a reference to Floyd Mayweather Jr.,

the other man who a big part of the world recognizes as the best pound for pound fighter in the world ,and who is the obvious nemesis to Manny.

Pacquiao, who has to date won championship belts in five divisions and beat the linear champion in two others, can no

longer be looked on as a small man who was beating washed up fighters,those days are as ancient as the pyramids.

In the case of Cotto, he took ont he cream of the crop in an elite and powerful welterweight Cotto whose only loss came to date under suspicious circumstances to Antonio Margarito last year. There is growing suspicion that Margarito’s gloves were loaded for that fight, though it has never been proven.Can you beleive the old tricks are still in use at this level,and that they can get away with it.

But Pacquiao proved he was able not only to take a rock hard welterweight punch, and rock him repeatedly. It was all in all a magnificent performance and will no doubt create a public demand for a fight with Mayweather.

“I want to see him fight Mayweather,” Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said.

Santiago said Pacquiao hit harder and was stronger than expected.Hard to believe with his proven record and stats Cotto

also carried an injury in his left shoulder in the eighth.
