Exxon Mobil—Where It All Began

| More

Exxon Mobil has big ambitions for their company, and while the economy is pretty rough right now, they are constantly working to better improve its’ customers standards of living and trying to find the newest and best technology that is cleaner and safer for our environment.

Exxon Mobil has three different, widely known brands: Esso, Exxon, and Mobil. Through these brands, Exxon Mobil is considere d the top leader in the oil and gas providers. Exxon Mobil has been around for over a hundred of years.

Originally the only large oil company known was Standard Oil. This was back when the first oil hole was successfully drilled in 1859 in Pennsylvania. The Standard Oil Company was owned by Mr. Rockefeller himself. In 1911, Standard Oil became too large of a company and was broken into 34 smaller companies. At this point, the company we know today as Exxon Mobil was eventually formed by 2 of these smaller companies, Mobil and Jersey Standard.

Jersey Standard had two main brands of oil, Exxon and Esso. In 1926, the new brand, Esso, was brought out. The name was inspired by the initials of the original company Standard Oil. In 1972, Jersey Standard changed its name to Exxon.

Mobil products became popular through racing in the Indianapolis 500, while many of the race drivers used Mobil fuel for their vehicles. Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh also used Mobil oil. Mobil was the leading brand in synthetic motor oil and also provides aviation oil as well.

In the 1980’s concerns began to increase about the safety of this oil, so Exxon Mobil opened an environmental health research part to their company.

Since then, Exxon and Mobil have been searching for better ways to improve the oil and gas for our environment. Over the past thirty years the concerns have grown much more. Exxon and Mobil have come up with various ways to more efficiently, effectively, and safely drill to receive oil. This allows us to do less damage to our natural Earth.

To better their customer’s experience at their gas stations, Exxon came out with the Speedpass in 1997. The Speedpass activates the pump automatically and charges it to your credit card, shortening your time at the pump! For the fast paced American society, this was a dream come true.

And in 1999, something even greater happened. Exxon and Mobil joined to make the Exxon Mobil Corporation. This merge allowed both companies to be more globally competitive. Exxon Mobil’s new slogan is “Taking on the world’s toughest energy.”

Exxon Mobil as a company finds, produces, and sells 3 very different products: crude oil, natural gas, and petroleum. ExxonMobil has to fight many issues as a company. They are trying to make fuel pricing cheaper in every way that they can, but at the same time deliver us good quality fuel. The company is looking for ways to help make us more energy efficient.
