BAFTA Rewards Excellence
BAFTA (the British film and Televisions Arts are annual awards) are celebrated in April / May, (similar to the Oscars), for displaying and acknowledging excellence related to the film and television industry, inclusive of video games, animation and television craft.The Awards are referred as "the BAFTA's. They are annually awarded from 1954.The independent charity BAFTA with the aim of supporting , developing and promoting a motion of art forms through rewarding achievements of excellence while serving as an inspiration to practitioners as well as provision of public benefit, created the BAFTA ( British film and Television annual awards)
There is also craft awards for more technical industry aspects inclusive of special effects, costumes or production design. Television craft awards for skills involved in 'behind the scenes' of television production. The Craft Awards include categories of interactive media. The craft awards ceremony takes place at a later date.
The British Film Academy was founded in 1947, by leading film industry leaders in Britain, Roger Manvell, David Lean, Charles Laughton, Alexander Korda, and Carol Reed. The Guild of Television Producers and Directors merged with the British Film Academy and formed the Society of Film and Television; in 1976 it became The British Academy of Film and Television Arts.The Awards are open exclusively to British programs except the Pioneer Award that is audience voted .All cable, terrestrial satellite or digital television stations that broadcast in UK can submit entries, as well as production companies that produced for these channels. Actors can be entering individually or through broadcasters.
The British Academy Children's Awards are annual awards that take place in November that rewards art form excellence aimed specifically at children.
From 2007 the Children's Awards has been inclusive of a Kids Vote Award that children under the age of 14 vote for childrenÕs film making project (CBBC me and my movie award) to enable and inspire children to make their films and tell stories about themselves. In 2006 BAFTA decided to allocate equal status to video games as with television and film and ensured televised screening of the ceremony that took place at London's Camden Roundhouse.
In addition to high profile awards ceremonies BAFTA runs educational event programs all year inclusive of tribute evenings and film screenings. BAFTA has a membership of about 6000 people from video game, television and film industries. The main BAFTA BA office is based in London, Piccadilly, it has branches in Los Angeles (BAFTA/LA) Scotland (BAFTA Scotland)), New York City (BAFTA East Coast) and Wales (BAFTA Cymru).In 1955, the Guild of Television producers commissioned the design of The Academy awards, it designed by Miti Cunliffe, an American sculptor. BAFTA/LA, initiated its own awards ceremony in 1989, titled the Britannia Awards.
A special tribute program, "Happy Birthday BAFTA" was shown in UK on ITV that celebrated BAFTA's 60 years.
