Kite surfer bares a fatal rare Shark attack

Surfers and swimmers in Florida suffer minor bites , there are usually rare cases of extreme shark attacks. On Wednesday a kite surfer experienced this rare shark attack off a Florida beach. A lifeguard who witnessed a distressed man 500 yards from the shore paddled out and witnessed sharks that encircled 38 yr old Stephen Howard Schafer. The lifeguard then loaded him on the rescue board and paddle d to the shore. Schafer then later died in a hospital.

When sharks attacks humans it is called a shark attack. Although each year many people are shark attacked, death is rare. The great white shark has had the main involvement of attacking humans.The year 2000 has the highest record of shark attacks, a total of seventy nine worldwide. Sixteen were fatal cases. The record decreased to 61 in 2005 and 62 in 2006 .The fatal case records dropped to 4 annually. Majority of these attacks were in the US totalling to fifty three in 2000 ,forty in 2005 and thirty nine in 2006.

Most shark attacks were in Florida, California ,North Carolina, South Carolina and Hawaii. The other countries besides US has been South Africa and Australia that had a record number of shark attacks .There was a total record of 2251 worldwide attacks from 1958 ,464 were fatal .The most recorded were in New Smyyrna Beach ,Florida . The estimated chance that a person can get shark attacked is one in eleven and a half million and the chance of getting killed in a shark attack is one in two hundred and sixty four million.

There are five basic types of shark attacks, provoked attacks, these occur when humans touch sharks, unprovoked attacks are basically hit and run attacks that are not fatal as the shark attacks with a minor bite and leaves. A fatal attack is a sneak attack that is deep water, the bite and bump attack is when the sharks first bumps and then bites.Sharks have sensory organs that are called Ampullae of Lorenzini detecting electricity that is generated movement of muscle.

Precautions to be taken are avoidance of water at night or dusk whe sharks usually feed.Stay away from murky waters and steep waters. Avoid any bleeding and always swim in groups. Always obey lifeguard and authority instructions. Always remember that all sharks,even those considered harmless are dangerous wild animals and there is no prediction possible on their reactions. Always be cautious of sharks.

It was recently announced that Carrie Underwood ,of American Idol fame will debut in her first feature film title “Soul survivor” .It depicts a true story of Bethay Hamilton, a teen champion of surfing who in a shark attack lost her arm.
