Taking The Tiger Out Of The Woods
Taking The Tiger Out Of The Woods.
The private and somewhat secluded image of the world's no. 1 golfer continues to be torn to shreds almost two weeks after the superstar smashed his car into a fire hydrant just yards from his Florida home.
The unlikely accident, which at first was reported with concern quickly led on to allegations of extramarital affairs and drug abuse.
First we are tol d of neighbors witnessing Woods bizarre accident and his wife running to the rescue with his own golf club. Later it was suggested that perhaps his wife, Elin Nordegren actually beat him, smashed the clubs in to the car in a rage, and to protect his wife from legal proceedings Woods actually staged the whole thing.
What then followed was a wacky saga portraying a seemingly double life.
From the pristine image of the perfect sportsman, to that of a multiple adulterer and professional liar, Woods image sinks still deeper in the mud. It would seem that his appetite for sex with varying hostesses is as big as his appetite for major titles.
The victim's role in the drama belongs to Elin Nordegren Woods. The Swedish model is married to the 33-year-old, has two children with him and was always the perfect beauty, in addition to the super golfer. But apparently she eventually also took a shot.
Before the accident Woods had been traveling so slowly that not even the airbags opened in the crash. The crash should have been long forgotten by the press; after all it was just a car accident. But it was not to be, as the crash remained a curious affair in the public's eye.
"I am fine" announced the professional golfer after leaving the hospital - a final, but relatively harmless lie before the house of cards collapsed. Woods tried to stop what was already going on. One of his phone messages has been played and played all over the internet "Hey, Tiger here. Can you do me a favor and delete your name from the announcement? My wife has checked my phone and could call you, "Since then hundreds of reporters have been waiting outside the villa entrenching the athletes."
A barmaid Cori Rist (who claims to be Woods 6th mistress) told reporters of her numerous affairs with the sportsman. Woods is said to have flown the barmaid if necessary, when he was on tour, and he would rent them adjoining rooms at the hotel. The 33-year-old refrains from describing the meetings. Reports however are being circulated, saying that the richest athlete in the world is silencing his former ladies with cash gifts.
Unlike Cori Rist, waitress Mindy Lawton is more talkative: "He wanted to beat me during sex,"she says. Rist claims to have met Woods during his wife's pregnancy. Should he return to the green, there will always remain images of the scandal.
The Obama of sport has fallen. Radio preacher John Ziegler said "Tiger does not deserve to be regarded as a model or a hero anymore," and spoke of "The Damnation of Tiger Woods".
Woods, however, continue to fight for this ideal world of his. On his website he asks his family for forgiveness. In the news-bombs go off, while he sits in his palace as one would a bunker. A bunker in which there is a growing fire.
Woods and his wife Elin repeatedly held meetings with a marriage counselor, they said. And Besides the imploring words of apology by Woods the meetings also included a possible two-digit million sum settlement for Nordegren.
