The Benefits of Universal Health Care - Is Universal Health Care the Way to Go?

| More

Universal health care is when everyone under the same government has health care coverage for all, or almost all, of the following: medical, dental, and mental health care. The benefits of having universal health care are high because everyone will always receive health care when in need. BUT the benefits come with a price because universal health care is typically a public funded program.

I s it worth the price to the governments’ citizens though? Well it is to some. In a way it is like a socialist act because everyone is being treated equally, while other citizens may have to pay more than the poor. But shouldn’t it be our right to receive health care? Just as, it is children’s right to receive an education?

Following War World II, a health care reform took place globally. These reforms that took place are mostly the same health care bills in place today. This is why many of them need updated or changed, the population has increased so much since 1948. During this time period, the US did not ratify Article 25, which included the right to health.

Currently in the US, the government is striving to reach the goal of universal health care, without raising taxes to pay for the lower income families to have health care. The US has many citizens that go uninsured every year, if only the government could provide them with some free basic health care needs, and then their goal would be achieved.

In the United States we have the slogan, “No child is left behind.” This pertains to receiving an education. Why is it not the same for health care? Many children go uninsured every year, along with adults. The people that can pay for insurance should, while those who cannot afford it should be able to receive discounts funded by the government, just as they do with education.

In order for the United States to reach their goal of “Universal Health Care,” something to this effect is going to have to take place. We can model our health care reform to try and fit countries that have universal health care, such as the UK, Spain, and Italy. The trick is, we still need to remain a federalist government.

There are many children, teenagers, adults, and seniors suffering everyday in the United States because the lack of an universal health care system. If only our government could find a way to provide a low-cost insurance plan that they could afford, even if it wasn’t one of high quality, something is better than nothing.
