Did Canada Invent Ice Hockey?
The exciting and thrilling winter sport ice hockey is one of the oldest sports which came into existence from the city name Montreal in Canada. On 3rd march 1875 ice hockey was played at the Victoria skating rink Montreal. The exciting sport consists of a total of six players including one goal tender. Its equipments include sticks and a puck which serves exactly like a ball and it is commonly use d in ice hockey. Canada was primarily the first country to invent ice hockey as a sport for the areas which are covered with snow in winters like Sweden, Finland and northern United States. Ice hockey is also a winter National game of Canada. The reason behind this fact is simple, that Canadians want to support the invention made purely by them.
People of Canada became ice hockey enthusiasts in a very short period the sport became so popular and it was encouraged by the youth as they find the young sport thrilling and adventurous. After so many acknowledgments the first ‘World Championship’ of ice hockey was featured in Montreal’s annual Winter Carnival in the year 1883.the government of Canada supported the idea of ice hockey and worked really hard for its promotion and regarding building rules for the young sport. Various competitions of ice hockey were being organized by the government. This further enhanced the popularity of ice hockey. In 1902 professional ice hockey came into existence then gradually National Hockey Association was made in order to organize the young sport.
It is a unique kind of sport which is played between six players including one goaltender on the ice rink. It is a game targeting on goals which is made with the help of a
Long stick with a blade curved from one side and a puck. The players have to control the puck until they reach to the opponent’s goal net in order to make a goal. There are various tactics of ice hockey but one of the famous is checking which is the body of the game, to divert the attention of the opponent in order to get hold over the puck. Another defensive strategy is Neutral zone trap which stops the opponent team to cross through the neutral zone.
Although, this thrilling winter sport ice hockey seems very exciting and adventurous because of the cool breezy weather over the white glowing snow but at the same time this sport is dangerous and some times life threatening. The occurrence of injuries between the games is a common fact because the Skaters use heavy iron made skates consist of sharp blades which can prove to be very dangerous if the skater falls on the slippery ice rink. Because of the close physical contact between the skaters head injuries are also very common in ice hockey if somebody falls the next player would hurt him through sharp bladed skates which can cause immediate deep cuts in the head. in order to avoid any dangerous incidence major safety classes and instructions were given to the skaters in order to save their precious lives.
