The Negotiator - Drew Rosenhaus
Drew Rosenhaus, a famous NFL sports agent, was born on October 29, 1966. He is famous for insistent representation and generating lucrative contracts for his clients. Rosenhaus represents more than a hundred NFL players and many players are NFL superstars including Plaxico Burress, Tommie Harris, Willis McGahee, Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, Jeremy Shockev, Santana Moss, Frank Gore, Lance Briggs , DeSean Jackson and many others. Rosenhaus was born in South Orange, New Jersey. Rosenhaus graduated from University of Miami in 1987 and got a law degree in 1990 from Duke University School of Law. Around twenty four of his NFL clients are connections he made in college.
In 1989 Rosenhaus became the youngest ever registered sports agent at the age of 22 and in the year 2008, he has negotiated well over one billion dollars in football contracts. Rosenhaus Sports Representation (RSR) is Drew’s Miami based sports agency. The vice president of the company is Drew’s brother Jason Rosenhaus. Drew is famous for the aggressive tactics with which he represents his NFL clients. His clients are some of the most flamboyant and well known personalities in NFL. Rosenhaus had also convinced general managers of NFL to allow cameras for documentation of negotiations earlier in his career.
Some agents (having private and public issues with Rosenhaus) claimed that Rosenhaus has sometimes violated the rules of NFLPA (NFL Players Association) by contacting clients registered with other agents. They also said that he (Drew) uses his players to recruit other players, which is also a violation but, NFLPA didn’t have any formal findings of any violations.
His representation of a University of Miami star Willis McGahee is a prominent example of Drew’s success. His representation lead to McGahee being picked by Buffalo Bills in the first round of 2003 NFL draft, despite the fact that McGahee was still enduring a severe knee injury at that moment of time. Even though he is an agent who usually operate behind the scenes, Rosenhaus has made several public appearances. He is the only agent to appear on Sports Illustrated’s cover and has also featured on Inside the NFL and Real Sports (HBO). In 1998, his autobiography (A Shark Never Sleeps) was published. He also appeared in a movie, Any Given Sunday, regarding professional football which was released in 1999. Rosenhaus has also made television appearances on Sport’s Xtra, Late Show with David Letterman and Arli$$. He has also appeared in commercials for ‘Burger King’ and ‘This is SportsCenter’.
